What is P0174?

P0174 indicates your engine's Bank 2 is running with too much air and not enough fuel, a condition known as 'lean.' This is a medium-severity powertrain issue that can trigger reduced engine performance and fuel economy. Based on owner reports, it commonly appears in vehicles like the Nissan Maxima and Ford F-150, often related to air intake or fuel delivery problems.

Common Causes:

  • Vacuum leaks or air intake leaks (commonly mentioned with older vehicles like the 2010 Nissan Maxima)
  • Faulty or dirty mass airflow (MAF) sensor
  • Clogged or failing fuel injectors on Bank 2
  • Exhaust leaks (mentioned in owner reports of rusted exhaust systems)
  • Weak fuel pump or restricted fuel filter

Symptoms:

  • Check Engine Light is illuminated
  • Engine may run rough or misfire (as reported in Honda Accord cases with cylinder misfires)
  • Reduced engine power or hesitation during acceleration
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Engine may occasionally stall at idle

It started giving me a blinking engine light, so I got the codes read and it gave me plenty to ponder on. For the record, I changed the Camshaft Position Sensor and VCT solenoid and neither has worked so far.

For the record, I changed the Camshaft Position Sensor and VCT solenoid and neither has worked so far. Here's the codes I got: P0172 Bank 1 too rich P0174 Bank 2 too lean P0300 Random Misfire P0302 Misfire Cyl 2 P0303 Misfire Cyl 3 P0304 Misfire Cyl 4 P0340 Cam Sensor Bank A P0344 Cam sensor intermittent P2916 O2 sensor stuck rich B1S1 P0138 O2 circuit high voltage B1S2 Obviously, I have a feeling that it's the O2 sensors, but why would both sensors go bad at the same time?

Has anybody every had a p0174 code due to a faulty or clogged injector. I have checked the MAF all the vacum line's and done the water test on the intake with no change so im now thinking a bad or faulty injector.

Well you kind of made my point for me p0174 is specific to bank 2 so I should be able v to rule out the MAF PVC egr fuel filter so I have to look at things that would just effect 1 side and not the other side like injectors or vacuum leaks, the problem also does come down alot when the speed increases so I'm thinking a leak I just v haven't found it yet might have to smoke test it.
